This article understands the types of cell insulation materials
With the rapid development of new energy vehicles and energy storage industries, the importance of battery insulation materials has become increasingly prominent. Suitable core insulation materials can effectively prevent short circuit and leakage, improve battery performance and safety. At present, the common cell insulation materials have the following categories:
PET insulating film
PET insulating film is a single-sided tape made of PET substrate and pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) on the back, commonly known as "blue film". With its good insulation properties, chemical resistance and tensile strength, it has been the mainstream choice for electrical insulation and physical protection of power batteries for a long time. However, it also has some shortcomings, such as PSA adhesive bonding performance is limited, in the impact of external force, easy to fall off from the battery shell peel; At high voltages, its maximum breakdown resistance voltage is 2500V, which is difficult to meet the needs of today's use.
UV coated insulation material
UV coated insulation material is a new type of cell insulation material emerging in recent years. Its breakdown resistance voltage can reach 2800-6000V, and the shear strength of the battery bond is as high as 9-15Mpa, which is much higher than the PET insulating film. And its curing speed is very fast, the single cell spray time is only 2-4S, can achieve 15-30PPM production efficiency, a yield of 99%, ink utilization rate of 100%, the entire production process can also achieve a high degree of automation and intelligence, and no VOCs volatiles, more environmentally friendly.
PC insulation sheet
PC insulation sheet is an insulating and flame-retardant PC film as the base material, and has the characteristics of insulation, flame retardant, fire prevention and high efficiency resistance. In the field of new energy batteries, it is often used as an insulating material between cells, can effectively prevent short circuit between cells, when the battery occurs thermal runaway, its flame retardant performance can also slow the spread of fire, improve the safety performance of the battery.
Silicone elastomer insulation sheet
Silicone elastomer materials filled with pure boron nitride, such as spa-sp035, belong to silicone elastomer insulation sheets. It has high thermal conductivity, super voltage resistance, low density, low dielectric properties, and ultra-thin, soft, strong toughness, adhesive, with its own viscosity, can well meet the new energy vehicle battery and electronic packaging applications of thermal insulation needs, suitable for electric vehicles, energy storage batteries and other scenarios.
Powder coating
Powder coating is an emerging solution for internal battery insulation. It is simple in construction, one spray molding, easy to install and transport. Compared with the traditional blue film, the powder coating does not produce air gaps, good adhesion, not easy to break, excellent performance in insulation, corrosion resistance, humidity and heat stability, etc., for the structural connection between the cell and Pack, but also simplifies the difficulty of development.
High shear insulation material
The high shear insulation material was developed for the special needs of high voltage battery modules, which require higher voltage resistance to meet the requirements of 800V voltage platforms. For example, the HSI high-shear insulation material spraying solution developed by Kremings Company can save the cost of the top cover and save the comprehensive cost, and its core indicators such as puncture pressure and shear force meet or exceed the industry standards, providing reliable insulation protection for the battery module.
Different kinds of cell insulation materials have their advantages and disadvantages, with the continuous progress of new energy technology, the performance requirements of cell insulation materials continue to improve, and these materials will continue to innovate and develop in the future to better meet the needs of the industry.
