Cell insulation material inventory: types, characteristics and applications

In the composition of the new energy battery, the core insulation material plays a vital role, which can not only effectively prevent short circuit, ensure the safe and stable operation of the battery, but also directly affect the performance and service life of the battery. So, what are the common cell insulation materials?

PET insulating film: PET blue film is a single side tape made of PET substrate pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA), because of its good insulation performance, chemical resistance and tensile strength in the cell insulation material is also relatively excellent, has long occupied a mainstream position in the field of power battery electrical insulation and physical protection. However, the PSA back adhesive has limited bonding performance, and it is easy to fall off and peel off when it is impacted by external force, and under high voltage, the breakdown voltage is difficult to meet the requirements.

UV coated insulation material: As a new type of cell insulation material, UV coated material has emerged with its excellent performance advantages. Its breakdown resistance voltage can reach 2800-6000V, which is much higher than the highest breakdown resistance voltage of PET blue film 2500V; The shear strength of the cell bonding is as high as 9-15Mpa, which is also far higher than the 3-4Mpa of the blue film. In addition, its curing speed is extremely fast, a single cell spray time is only 2-4S, can achieve 15-30PPM production efficiency, a yield of 99%, ink utilization rate of 100%, and the entire production process can achieve a high degree of automation and intelligence, no VOCs volatiles, more environmentally friendly.

PC insulation sheet: PC insulation sheet is an insulating and flame-retardant PC film as the substrate die-cut core insulation material, with insulation, flame retardant, fireproof and high-efficiency resistance characteristics. In new energy batteries, it is often used as an insulating material between cells, which can effectively prevent short circuit between cells, and its flame retardant performance can slow the spread of fire and improve the safety performance of the battery when the battery is thermal out of control.

Silicone elastomer insulation sheet: For example, spa-sp035, a pure boron nitride filled silicone elastomer material, has high thermal conductivity, super voltage resistance, low density, low dielectric properties, and ultra-thin, soft, toughness, adhesive, adhesive, can well meet the thermal insulation needs of new energy vehicle batteries and electronic packaging applications, suitable for electric vehicles, energy storage batteries and other scenarios.

Powder coating: This is an emerging battery internal insulation solution, simple construction, one spray molding, easy to install and transport. Compared with the traditional blue film, the powder coating does not produce air gaps, good adhesion, not easy to damage, for the structural connection between the cell and Pack, but also simplifies the difficulty of development, its insulation, corrosion resistance, humidity and heat stability and other properties are also very excellent.

High shear insulation: Developed for the special needs of high voltage battery modules, which require higher voltage resistance to meet the requirements of 800V voltage platforms. For example, the HSI high-shear insulation material spraying solution developed by Kremings Company can save the cost of the top cover and save the comprehensive cost, and its core indicators such as puncture pressure and shear force meet or exceed the industry standards, providing reliable insulation protection for the battery module.

With the continuous development of new energy technology, the performance requirements for core insulation materials are also continuing to improve, and these materials will continue to innovate and develop in the direction of higher performance, more environmentally friendly and more adaptable to complex working conditions in the future.
